The Papanasam temple is a very famous and revered Hindu temple that is situated in the Tirunelveli district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. this temple is one of the most famous temples dedicated to the Lord Shiva and this temple is also called as Papanasanathar temple. The significance of this temple is that the people believe that Papanasam means the destruction of sins the people here visit to seek purification and redemption. This place is a very famous pilgrimage site and for taking a holy dip in the river.
The temple is constructed in the following Dravidian style of architecture and it has a beautiful intricate carving and gopurams. The people believe that here in the Tamiraparani River by bathing in it, especially near the Agasthiyar Falls can get rid of their past sins. Most of the devotees visit this temple during festivals like Mahashivratri, Aadi Amavasai and Margazhi Thiruvathirai.
The temple opens daily at 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM for the morning session and 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM that is the timings may vary during some festivals on special occasions.
